What Do Silencers And B&T Suppressors Have In Common? |
A silencer is meant to minimize noise, whereas a suppressor is intended to eliminate muzzle flash, according to some. A suppressor, on the other hand, reduces part of the noise. The name "silencer" is technically incorrect because nothing completely silences a gun, yet it is widely used. The short answer is that both phrases are interchangeable, implying that the terms Silencer and Suppressor refer to the same item. Hiram Percy Maxim called the suppressor the 'Maxim Silencer' in his patent and marketing papers when he invented it.
